My top ten wedding cakes of 2019

My top ten wedding cakes of 2019

Here is a little recap with my favourite wedding cakes this year đź’› I loved each and every one of them but of course, some stole my heart!

Aaaaah, 2019. You deserve a full blog post to yourself, you were so INTENSE. But in good ways more than in bad.

1. A dinosaur wedding cake at Down Hall Hotel and Spa

Let’s start with one I had been waiting a year and a half to make (that’s how organised they were), Colleen and Karen’s BEAUTIFUL AND HUGE dinosaur wedding cake. As you can see, the dinosaurs are having a party on humans bones. How epic? They are both vegan and had a fully vegan wedding, but they also wanted to have as many vegan suppliers and I can only love and applaud that. (If you want to do the same, check my vegan suppliers list!) They got married at Down Hall Hotel and Spa.

2. A painted cake in Luxembourg

Then we have this intricate and delicate yet minimalist and playful painted cake. This cake was a mix of all my favourite things: painting, modelling and working with dried flowers 🧡 I delivered it all the way to Luxembourg. It shows that wedding cakes can be playful and poetic, all at the same time.

3. Mermaids and robots wedding cake at Fawley Hill

When Kelly and Joe contacted me, they weren’t sure what sort of cake they wanted. Joe wasn’t sure he wanted something really alternative, but when Kelly showed him my cakes, he was totally convinced ❤ and so they gave me the theme “Mermaids and robots” and gave me free reign. I came up with this three tier cake, painted with different hues of blues and teals to represent the ocean, mermaids and sea creatures, and little robots full of wonder. I had such an amazing time creating it, and am always so grateful and honoured to be given free range! They got married at the stunning venue that is Fawley Hill, Henley.

4. Disney wedding cake

Vikki and Mikey had booked their cake with me for a while, and Vikki’s brief was: Disney but elegant, with fresh hydrangeas and silvers, pastels and white. Again, they gave me free reign and I decided to paint Disney characters on the cake, keeping them outlined in black and silver for it to stay elegant and with a classic touch. I added some fluffy pink hydrangeas and painted a full tier with edible silver paint, and added little bits of edible silver glitter in light touches to give the cake some depth and help catch the light. This cake shows you you don’t have to have a very alternative-looking cake for an elegant Disney wedding!

5. Black wedding cake with skulls at Brinsop Court

Anne and Andrew got married at Brinsop Court Estate, in Hereford, which is one of my favourite venues. It looks absolutely stunning and they went for a black wedding cake, with gold leaf, and two skull toppers - made out of chocolate, one gold, one silver as a representation of alchemy. This towering beauty, adorned with white flowers and lush greenery, totally stole my heart.

6. Lego wedding cake at the Mermaid Inn

Peter and Vicky’s enquiry made my heart leap out of my throat because they got married at the Mermaid Inn, in Rye, where Thib and I had originally decided to get married (lots of it because of the name, ofc, and before we changed our mind to Normandy so it would be easier for older relatives to come). So it was with a lot of emotions that I delivered their colourful Lego cake on a rainy morning - they wanted a cake that looked different to the ones you see on pinterest, and with more than just Legos and bricks, so I handmade Lego flowers, cats, lobsters, and hearts. And the one true love declaration: “I would walk across Legos for you”, which is one BIG thing to say.

7. Cat wedding cake at Hartsfield Manor

Enmee and Chris were originally going to have a naked cake for their wedding, but as their original cake maker had to cancel, they came to me and HOW HAPPY I AM THAT THEY DID. We originally chatted about making them a flowery cake but they soon changed their minds when they saw my creations - and went for a fully cat wedding cake - with cat toppers, cat figurines, little mouse and yarn, and fish - basically a cat playground on a cake (no hunting allowed, just play). They got married at the stunning Hartsfield Manor, and even had mini cat cake jars as wedding favours!

8. 90s retro wedding cake and desserts at East Horton Golf Club

For this cake and dessert table, I also had free reign. Paige and Chris told me what their theme and tables were about, so I just had a great time making Pokemon toppers, little Furbys, Legos, and flowers all out of sugar, and placed unicorn rocky roads, pink cupcakes, Lego sugar cookies, and sprinkles sugar cookies. I then styled the table with everything that was given to me, crochet dollies, pompoms, flowers and little treats.

9. Dragon and marble wedding cake

Keita and Edward has a small and intimate wedding. They’re both fans of Dungeons and Dragons and wanted this incorporated in their cake 💙 So I made it a small two tier, with handmade sugar dragons as toppers, little coins and flasks, and added gold leaf to the marble I incorporated into the navy blue fondant. People always worry that small cakes won’t have a wow factor - but they certainly can.

10. Floral wedding cake at Silchester House

Laura and James wanted a flowery cake and I used all my love of flowers for their cake to make it look like fairies had sprinkled a little dust on it, and pfffew! A whole garden of flowers appeared on their cake. They got married at the beautiful venue that is Silchester House and I still dream about their cake.

The reality is that I loved making each and every cake that were ordered this year. Making this list was a lot harder than I thought it would be!!!! I want to thank each and everyone of you who supports my business, month in and month out, and allow me to make my dream come true. If you had told me ten years ago that I would have to refuse wedding cake orders because I get booked up far in advance, I don’t think I would have believed you. (Especially as the goal was, at that time, to become a philosophy translator, haha!)

If you love the looks of them, do not hesitate to get in touch for your own wedding cake ❤

Lots of love,

Tiny Sarah
