Best hen party ideas that don't involve dicks
I am ALL for celebrations and parties, and adding parties to celebrate that you’re going to party (which is basically what a hen do, a stag do or an engagement party are). Parties are my JAM but to be honest, parties during which you’re surrounded by plastic (beh) dicks (beh) are really NOT my thing. And I know a LOT of people who think the same as me - so I thought I’d start breaking into a sweat with this little brain of mine and offer you a little guide to the best hen party (or other parties) that don’t involve ANY DICKS! WHOOP!
I have a few different angles for these:
-our first part will cover workshops and classes, during which you and your friends will learn new things, have fun and very importantly, bond over something you’re making or doing. It works particularly well if not everyone knows each other as it’s the perfect way to break the ice;
-our second part will cover ways to celebrate in one location, as a more traditional party, but with lots of cool ideas to make it one the fabbest party of the year;
-our third part (I feel like I’m at uni again) will be about uber amazing games and activities you can do that don’t fall into the learning / workshop category.
Workshop ideas
Cake decorating workshop
First off, of course, a cake decorating workshop is always a fab idea. It’s fun, easy, you get to choose your theme beforehand, obvs taste what' you’re making as you go and then you can eat cake! I offer those for private parties - get in touch to know more!
Flower crown workshops
Lyndsey from Two Little Birds offer flower crown workshops. Again, they’re super lovely, you get to leave with your crown and it is very relaxed!
Pole fitness class or circus class
You do not need any prior exercise experience or anything. I always hear “But I don’t have any upper body strength” - YET! It’s very probably true - I didn’t have any when I started doing pole fitness - but that’s why you train. If you knew how to beforehand, where would the fun and accomplished feeling be? NOWHERE, I’m telling ya! I go to Reading Pole Arts - a fab bunch who do private classes for parties.
The coolest parties
Pyjama party
You could have a PYJAMA PARTY (I think that’s what I’m going to plan for my 30th). All your best friends and you, at home or at an airbnb you’ve rented - everyone in their pjs, watching movies, eating popcorn (or cake) (YES, I’m obsessed), reading aloud the most ridiculous chick lit excerpts and singing Disney songs. Obviously - you can do any theme you like, and switch any of the words you didn’t like in my description - that’s just my ideal party.
You could also have a tea party - with a theme. For example, a - not very originally, but still VERY cool - Alice in Wonderland tea party, with vintage crockery, lots of finger foods, different sorts of teas to sip. The whole place could be decorated, you could play croquet, have flamingo hats,…
Other ideas for a really fab party would be:
-a quiz like taboo where people have to guess situations / words related to your relationship together, or dates;
-an inflatable hot tub - DREAM.
Glamping
What about going to a fancy camp site with cabins in the woods, that has open fires so you can roast marshmallows and have a fancy bath in a copper tub? Some of them offer activities like archery, orienteering & other fun games.
Activities
Paintball
That is what we did! We did a joint hen / stag because I wanted to celebrate with Thib and have fun together (that’s the whole reason why I wanted to get married to him, tbh - because I like spending some cool time together). It was INTENSE. Be aware that paintball can be painful and a bit stressful - so it has to be your thing. It was a lot of fun!
Fast car driving
A friend of mine did that - and loved it! It’s not for the faint-hearted but can be a very fun day out.
Wine or gin tasting
For a quieter afternoon, and those who like wine, gin or any other alcohol.
Escape rooms
I went to Timetrap for a Christmas party and it was a LOT of fun. Escape rooms with a twist - you really get immersed in a time in history, and we all had lots of fun.
I hope this gives you LOTS of ideas! Whether you’re having a joint party with your partner and their friends or two separate parties, just make sure everyone is comfortable with the activities, each other, have food they can eat, etc. A great way to break the ice if not everyone knows each other is to set up a Whatsapp group beforehand so everyone can meet up, or start your party with the two truths, one lie game!
